Common Mistakes

• The use of "I" in a formal essay-Dont use "I think, In my opinion, or I feel this way..."
• The use of "you" in a formal essay-don't use "you"-instead use the audience or the reader or one.
• Floating quotes-do not leave a quote standing alone in your paragraphs. For example: 

"For you, a thousand times over." The Kite Runner by Khaled is a novel that....

"For you, a thousand times over" is a quote with significant meaning from The Kite Runner, a novel by Khaled Hosseini that...

• Lack of thesis statement in the introductory paragraph
• Thesis statements not answering the prompt-just discussing the themes of the novel instead of discussing which was superior-the text or the movie
